Behold, Pickle.

By themselves, neither vinegar nor cucumbers present an appealing option for consumption on a dreary Saturday afternoon. However, a cucumber soaked in vinegar is a something magical. I'm talking, of course, about the pickle.

The pickle is perhaps the most underappreciated food. The pickle is versatile. Pickles can be sweet or dill. Pickles can be a spear, a slice or a relish. Pickles go well with meat, bread and even other vegetables.

On average, Americans eat 9 pounds of pickles each year. Did you know that each one of those pounds contains zero fat? Yep, it's true.

The sad news is that only 67% of households eat pickles. I'm not trying to convince the 33% of remaining households to eat pickles or even like pickles. All I'm asking for is a little respect for the beloved snack.
